Description
Fluted vase by Charles Clewell
United States, c1930
A fluted copper cladded clay vase with bronze and verdigris patina.
By 1909, Clewell had perfected his own distinctive method of covering a clay vessel with a tight shroud, usually of bronze or copper. He never shared the secret of how to produce the patinated colors and the technique has never been replicated. Each creation is unique and etched on the base by Clewell himself.
